Course Overview
The HLTAID012 – Provide First Aid in an Education and Care Setting course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to deliver first aid responses specifically for infants and children in education and care environments. This unit meets the first aid requirements set out by the Education and Care Services National Law and Regulations and is suitable for those working in early childhood education and care settings.
Participants will learn how to respond effectively to a range of injuries, illnesses, and emergency situations involving children, including life-threatening conditions. The course follows the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) guidelines and emphasises safe, age-appropriate first aid practices, communication, and documentation.
On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

Respond appropriately to first aid emergencies in education and care settings

Perform CPR on infants and children

Use an automated external defibrillator (AED) safely

Manage asthma, anaphylaxis, seizures, diabetes, and febrile convulsions in children

Provide first aid for injuries such as bleeding, burns, fractures, and choking

Respond to environmental emergencies and illnesses.

Entry Requirements
To ensure the quality training outcomes, all candidates need to demonstrate sufficient academic capability to complete a unit of competency. These requirements are as following:

Students must be aged 18 or older

Ability to read, write and understand English (an LLN test will be conducted prior to comencing the course)

Participants must have the physical capacity to perform the practical demonstrations

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer:
Pal Education has a recognition of prior learning (RPL) process in place for students who wish to have their prior skills, knowledge, experience and education formally recognised. All students enrolling in the course are entitled to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or credit transfer.
RPL allows the student to be recognised for their skills and knowledge gained from previous study or work experience without repeating the training.
Credit Transfer provides the student with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. Students will be exempted from the relevant unit of competency who are awarded credit Transfer. Students must submit a verified Certificate or Statement of Attainment issues by RTO for formal recognition.
