Course Overview

The CPPFES2020 – Conduct Routine Inspection and Testing of Fire Extinguishers and Fire Blankets course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to carry out routine inspections and testing of portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets in accordance with workplace procedures and relevant Australian Standards.

 

This unit is designed for individuals who are responsible for maintaining fire safety equipment as part of their job role. Participants will learn how to identify equipment types, conduct visual inspections, perform basic operational checks, identify faults, and complete required documentation to ensure fire extinguishers and fire blankets remain in a serviceable condition.

 

Key Learning Outcomes

  • On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify different types of fire extinguishers and fire blankets

  • Interpret relevant Australian Standards and workplace procedures

  • Conduct routine visual inspections and basic testing of fire extinguishers

  • Inspect fire blankets for compliance and serviceability

  • Identify defects, damage, or non-compliance issues

  • Apply workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements during inspections

  • Tag and record inspection outcomes accurately

  • Report faults and take appropriate follow-up action in line with workplace requirements

  • Fire safety and maintenance personnel

Entry Requirements

To ensure the quality training outcomes, all candidates need to demonstrate sufficient academic capability to complete a unit of competency. These requirements are as following:

  • Students must be aged 18 or older

  • Ability to read, write and understand English (an LLN test will be conducted prior to comencing the course)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer:

Pal Education has a recognition of prior learning (RPL) process in place for students who wish to have their prior skills, knowledge, experience and education formally recognised. All students enrolling in the course are entitled to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or credit transfer. 

 

RPL allows the student to be recognised for their skills and knowledge gained from previous study or work experience without repeating the training.

Credit Transfer provides the student with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. Students will be exempted from the relevant unit of competency who are awarded credit Transfer. Students must submit a verified Certificate or Statement of Attainment issues by RTO for formal recognition.
