Course Overview

The CPPFES2005 – Demonstrate First Attack Firefighting Equipment course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to safely and effectively operate basic firefighting equipment in the early stages of a fire. This unit is designed for workers who may be required to respond to small, contained workplace fires using first attack firefighting equipment.

Participants will learn how to identify fire hazards, assess risks, and select and operate appropriate firefighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers and fire blankets. The course emphasises personal safety, correct decision-making, and compliance with workplace procedures and relevant Australian Standards.

 

On successful completion of this course, participants will be able to:

  • Identify common fire hazards and fire classes in the workplace

  • Assess fire risks and determine when it is safe to attempt first attack firefighting

  • Select appropriate firefighting equipment for different types of fires

  • Safely operate portable fire extinguishers and fire blankets

  • Follow workplace emergency procedures and evacuation requirements

  • Apply work health and safety (WHS) principles during fire incidents

  • Recognise limitations of first attack firefighting and when to withdraw

This course is suitable for:

  • Workers across all industries

  • Fire wardens and emergency response team members

  • Building occupants and workplace representatives

  • Hospitality, retail, and office-based staff

  • Construction, manufacturing, and warehouse workers

Entry Requirements

To ensure the quality training outcomes, all candidates need to demonstrate sufficient academic capability to complete a unit of competency. These requirements are as following:

  • Students must be aged 18 or older

  • Ability to read, write and understand English (an LLN test will be conducted prior to comencing the course)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer:

Pal Education has a recognition of prior learning (RPL) process in place for students who wish to have their prior skills, knowledge, experience and education formally recognised. All students enrolling in the course are entitled to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or credit transfer. 

 

RPL allows the student to be recognised for their skills and knowledge gained from previous study or work experience without repeating the training.

Credit Transfer provides the student with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. Students will be exempted from the relevant unit of competency who are awarded credit Transfer. Students must submit a verified Certificate or Statement of Attainment issues by RTO for formal recognition.
