Course Overview
The Basic Worksite Traffic Management (BWTM) course is designed for personnel who are responsible for setting up, modifying, and removing traffic management systems on worksites in Western Australia. This course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills to safely implement Traffic Management Plans (TMPs) and Traffic Guidance Schemes (TGS) in compliance with Main Roads WA, WorkSafe WA, and relevant Australian Standards.
Participants will learn how to establish safe traffic control environments that protect workers, road users, and the public while ensuring traffic flows efficiently around construction, roadworks, and civil project sites.
Key areas of learning include:

Legislative and regulatory requirements under WA WHS laws

Roles and responsibilities of BWTM personnel in Western Australia

Reading and implementing Traffic Management Plans and Traffic Guidance Schemes

Correct placement and removal of traffic signs, cones, barriers and devices

Setting up traffic control zones in live traffic environments

Hazard identification and risk assessment in traffic management activities

Safe work practices around vehicles, plant and mobile equipment

Upon successful completion, participants will be receive Main Roads WA accreditation card and certificate and be deemed competent to perform Basic Worksite Traffic Management duties on Western Australian worksites, supporting compliant and safe traffic control operations.

Entry Requirements
To ensure the quality training outcomes, all candidates need to demonstrate sufficient academic capability to complete a unit of competency. These requirements are as following:

Students must be aged 18 or older

Ability to read, write and understand English (an LLN test will be conducted prior to comencing the course)

Students must bring a Photo I.D.

Wear steel cap boots

Students must bring a hi-visibility vest (if you do not have one, one will be provided on the day of the course)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) & Credit Transfer:
Pal Education has a recognition of prior learning (RPL) process in place for students who wish to have their prior skills, knowledge, experience and education formally recognised. All students enrolling in the course are entitled to apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) or credit transfer.
RPL allows the student to be recognised for their skills and knowledge gained from previous study or work experience without repeating the training.
Credit Transfer provides the student with agreed and consistent credit outcomes for components of a qualification based on identified equivalence in content and learning outcomes between matched qualifications. Students will be exempted from the relevant unit of competency who are awarded credit Transfer. Students must submit a verified Certificate or Statement of Attainment issues by RTO for formal recognition.
